Tip: Enable smart boxes in iOS Mail

Smart Boxes in Mail

THE iOS 7 introduced a novelty that not everyone uses today, almost a year after its launch. At Smart Boxes (smart mailboxes) are like practical shortcuts that will help you better organize your messages and have faster access to them.

There are several mailboxes that are not activated by default when installing iOS and, therefore, many people ignore its existence. For example, it is possible to create a shortcut that shows only unread emails, or those you have flagged. Or rather: a folder with all the attachments you have already received. This is a hand in the wheel in everyday life and can greatly improve your productivity.

You can create direct boxes for:

  • Messages received from VIP contacts
  • Emails flagged by you
  • Unread emails
  • Incoming messages not sent directly to you
  • All attachments received
  • Drafts
  • Sent emails
  • Deleted messages

To activate the extra boxes is easy. Open the app Mail on your iPhone, iPod or iPad and scroll to Boxes. Touch the button To edit in the upper right corner of the screen, to show all options.

You can add new boxes, based on existing folders in your account (Gmail, for example, works with folders a lot). As a curiosity, iOS 8 will bring even more Smart Box options, making it possible to separate notified conversations or messages received “today”.
