Organization wants Apple to release location of iPhones in emergency calls

Now and then, the Apple implements some improvement related to emergencies in its products. However, Ma's operating systems still lack a crucial feature that could help save many lives worldwide. I refer to the automatic availability of the location of anyone who makes an emergency call.

This issue is so serious that emergency service organizations worldwide are asking Apple to implement the so-called Advanced Mobile Location (AML, something like “Localização Mvel Avanada”) on iPhones.

AML is a feature built into operator networks and can automatically (accurately) identify the exact position of someone making an emergency call. It is up to 4,000 times more accurate than those systems that rely on mobile signal triangulation. Google added support for this on Android last year, but Apple has so far not responded to requests to implement it on iOS.

THE European Emergency Number Association (EENA) representative of more than 1,300 emergency services in 80 countries worldwide explains that this system does not interfere with privacy, as we well know that it is something valuable for Ma.

The institution also recognizes the great features present on Apple devices, such as the Apple Watch functionality to send the location to a contact on the calendar, but said it was necessary that this information also reach emergency services.

EENA also said that AML will only be activated to send someone's location when the person makes an emergency call and, once the call is ended, the system is disabled.

The association shared several cases from around the world, such as when children in Estonia called the emergency department but did not know exactly its address; or when, in New Zealand, someone called with suicidal intentions and the only thing the attendants knew was that the person was at a train station. In all cases, with the AML it was possible to know exactly the location of the people and, thus, to send help promptly.

Several calls are made worldwide, all the time, and this type of feature would bring a big improvement that could literally save the lives of many people. It's not just whim. Therefore, it is extremely important that Apple pay attention to this.

The company is not denying In applying this, she has not yet responded to requests, which is not a good sign since these are serious organizations that are trying to improve the emergency system. However, it is possible for the media to contribute to the institution and draw Ma's attention. If there is any response from the company in this regard, we will certainly update the article with the information.
