iFixit puts his hands on an iPod touch 4G and ends the dream: it only has 256MB of RAM [atualizado]

Satisfying the curiosity of millions of geeks around the world, iFixit has published yet another of its dismantling operations, this time the fourth generation iPod touch. Unlike the shuffle, this touch is the easiest model to open so far, and its LCD screen, just like on the iPhone 4, attached to the front glass. If it breaks, you'll have to change everything.

To those who still had some doubt that the new iPod touch manages to be thinner than the previous generation, the image below should be a bit shocking: what you have on the left may look like, but not an iPhone!

Comparison of 3G and 4G touch iPods

If you've noticed, the new iPod touch has a lower speaker opening: that's because it now has a slightly more serious component for making noise. Although not exactly a Bose, his two exits (one for the new opening and one for the dock) should offer a more pleasant experience.

As expected, the 3.44Whr battery occupies most of the gadget's internal space (on the iPhone 4 it is 5.25Whr). I would say that this iPod is a battery with a touchscreen. However, the optimization and miniaturization of components allowed for something unbelievable in an Apple design: an empty space, or rather, filled with plastic filling (or was it a counterweight?). Crazy times, these

Well, the secret is that it is now very close to the front glass. Unless, of course, there is another one, hidden.

Although the rear camera has nothing to do with the one found on the iPhone 4, the front appears to be exactly the same.

Unfortunately, one thing that is not the same as on the smartphone is the amount of RAM: just like the iPad, the fourth generation iPod touch has “only” 256MB. This statement stems from the fact that the touch's A4 processor has the same numbering as the tablet, and both are different from the iPhone 4.

To see more images and follow the whole process step by step, make an iFixit visit just don't get too excited, so you don't have to take apart everything that comes ahead.

Update

Do you remember when we briefly commented that iPod touch had gained vibration? Bazinga! Look again at the accessibility page: the section that mentioned “vibrating alert” is gone. Worst of all, the people at iFixit confirm this.

Cus, the disappointment will never end ?! Baaad Apple, no cookie for you!
