ARM prepares platform for Google’s mobile operating system

Sapo opens laboratory at the University of Aveiro

ARM, one of the largest creators of mobile processors in the world whose architecture is present in most mobile phones and PDAs manufactured today, will present at the Mobile World Congress (ex-3GSM) a hardware platform for the mobile operating system advanced by Google during last year, Android.

Android has the support of several manufacturers of hardware and semiconductors, in addition to distribution companies, development of software and mobile operators, through the Open Handset Alliance, an organization created by Google to support the development of the mobile operating system.

Although ARM is not directly involved in the alliance, its intellectual property is widely used by several players, including Intel, Motorola, LG, HTC, among others.

Although the ARM presentation was confirmed to Reuters by a company source, it is not yet known what physical format the platform will take.
