Los Angeles police manage to hack iPhone 5s of murdered woman

You know that idea that, as things go, 2016 will be marked as the year that the world's governments and intelligence services became convinced that smartphones keep extremely personal (and sometimes incriminating) information and decided to get involved time in the business of invading the gadgets? For this, at least in my opinion, can already be considered as the purest truth.

April Jace and Michael Jace

Here is the newest story shared by Los Angeles Times: Actor Michael Jace was accused of murdering his wife, April Jace, with a point-blank shot on May 19, 2014, after a discussion by text messages. The actor's defense lawyer managed to have the actor's sentence postponed using the argument that her phone (an iPhone 5s) should be thoroughly investigated in order to prove that she was having an extramarital affair.

Since then the LA police have been trying to hack the iPhone without success. In January 2015, an Apple technician was ordered by a judge to help try to extract the data in vain, since nothing has been achieved. A second attempt, made by the LA district attorney's office, ended up leaving the device “deactivated” shortly after, authorities tried to inspect the iPhone again, but it didn't even call, according to search warrants.

However, on March 18, 2016 (period that matches the famous Apple vs. FBI case in which the bureau managed to access the information on a terrorist's iPhone 5c), Detective Connie Zach said the police found an expert on the subject who could bypass the blocked iPhone 5s functions in question and have access to the desired information. The search warrant, however, did not detail the method used by the police to break into the phone or reveal the identity of the expert. It is also unclear which version of iOS is installed on April Jace's iPhone 5s.

Michael Jace has no prison in his history, however, the Californian newspaper reported that in the divorce papers of his first marriage, there are quotes of threats and domestic violence by his ex-wife, Jennifer Biiterman, claimed in a 1997 document that Jace threatened to kill her if they went to war over the father's rights to visit his son.
