YouTube releases use of hashtags to facilitate searches | Social networks

Videos posted on YouTube began, this Wednesday (18th), to display hashtags in the title and description. According to Google, users will be able to use hashtags to search for content on the platform, either through the search field or by clicking on terms linked in the video and in the description.

The novelty tends to facilitate the exploitation of content on a given subject in the service, along the lines of what happens on networks like Twitter. Clicking or tapping on a hashtag redirects the user to automatically search for the tagged word. Hashtags appear first on the web version and in the Android application. There is still no expected arrival of the feature on the iPhone (iOS).

Hashtags can be added at the time of publication, directly in the platform editor. Title tags will be highlighted at the top of the video, next to the title. If the creator chooses to include the information only in the description, the most important tags will be chosen automatically to appear highlighted.

Creators need to abide by some rules regarding choice of hashtags. According to YouTube, the publication should contain as few tags as possible to make the content relevant to searches. Videos with more than 15 hashtags will be removed. In addition, it is not allowed to include terms that are not directly related to the subject of the video, nor to use pornographic words. It is also prohibited to use expressions that demonstrate harassment or hate speech.
