But the company's plans go beyond offering its products via import, as revealed by Luciano Barbosa, head of Xiaomi's Brazilian division, in an interview given to the Mobile Time website. According to him, the brand is already studying the possibility of manufacture their smartphones in Brazil, and that this may already happen this year 2020.
We have a study scheduled for completion in late May. If there is convergence in certain models, we can produce locally. But it will be a study on the ground. I wouldn't move my entire catalog to local production overnight, but gradually.
Currently, the company offers the Brazilian consumer 14 models of smartphones, all coming through imports. According to Luciano, this action aims to increase local sales and decrease the volume of the direct purchase call, where people prefer to import directly from China, thus avoiding what he considers some of the main problems of this method of purchase, such as:

- Increased online sales: According to Luciano, the company has been working on improving its e-commerce structure in Brazil.
