Xiaomi Mi 4i vs. Nexus 5 – Design
Nexus 5 is a solid sheet of screen with sharp edges and a housing made of lightly rubberized matt plastic. The front of the device is very reminiscent of the LG G2, while the back is reminiscent of the Nexus 7 tablet. The rather conservative and minimalist design of the Nexus 5, however, the device is quite ergonomic and can be easily handled with just one hand.
The power button is positioned on the right side while the volume buttons are on the left side. The bottom houses the micro USB port, and a small mono speaker. The front part features the approach and movement sensors, plus a camera and a notification LED.
The back features the device camera, LED flash and Nexus description inserted vertically. The bottom houses the logo of LG, the maker of the device in partnership with Google, and some inscriptions and certifications. The device is solid and guarantees a solid grip when used.
Xiaomi Mi 4i has a different approach, with straight lines and more striking colors. The device is not surrounded by an aluminum bezel like the Xiaomi Mi4, but delivers a well-polished, seamless look. The back has a slightly rounded surface at its ends, making the device more ergonomic.
The Xiaomi Mi 4i is a dual-SIM smartphone. In the dedicated SIM drawer on the left side of the device, two cards can be inserted. All physical buttons are located on the right side of the device, and at the bottom is positioned the micro USB connection. The rear houses the camera accompanied by the LED flash, and the bottom is centered the device speaker.
Overall, the design closely resembles the Apple iPhone 5c, with the good difference that Xiaomi doesn't use glossy (but opaque) plastic on the back.

Corning's Gorilla Glass 3-protected Nexus screen can reduce minor scratches and scratches. The Xiaomi Mi 4i features the OGS protection, also manufactured by Corning, and provides a thinner, touch-sensitive screen. With OGS technology the integrated touch layer is scratch protected, and delivers slightly higher protection than Gorilla Glass used in the Nexus 5.
Xiaomi Mi 4i vs. Nexus 5: Software
Nexus 5 runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 with no proprietary interface. Nexus line devices receive updates immediately as they become available from Google. The previous version of Android M can already be installed on Nexus 5, which should receive the final version of the system by the end of the year.
Xiaomi Mi 4i runs on Android Lollipop 5.0.2 and the MIUI 6.0 user interface. The pure Android user shouldn't like MIUI 6, as the typical app drawer is missing, so many apps are on the start screen. Xiaomi's interface does not follow Materia Design guidelines, and displays bolder colors between its contexts and menus.
Recently, an internal source at Xiaomi informed us that there are no MIUI upgrade plans for Android M in 2015. If this information is confirmed, the Mi 4i will run Android Lollipop all year round.
The Nexus 5 runs on a 2.3 GHz four-core Snapdragon 800 Qualcomm and Adreno 330 graphic. Simple processing tasks like playing average games or opening social networks run smoothly or without delay. System transitions run smoothly as do games, which do not drop frames or freeze. Even based on the Krait 400 architecture, the Nexus 5 processor is powerful enough for most everyday tasks.
The Xiaomi Mi 4i runs on the 1.7GHz eight-core Snaodragon 615 processor and Adreno 330 graphics. The processor performs intelligent power management and prevents the device from overheating. You'll be able to run the latest Play Store games smoothly, plus social networks and messaging apps. A disadvantage of the apparatus is the lack of expandable memory which, in combination with 16 GB of internal storage, can become a problem.
The Nexus 5's combination of hardware and software is exceptional, capable of delivering satisfactory performance in most situations. The Mi 4i doesn't disappoint either, however, we noticed a slight warm-up in the next camera area after some game time, but nothing of concern.
