WWDC 2012: Siri welcomes developers; Phil Schiller presents new MacBooks (Air and Pro)

The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2012 started in style, with Siri welcoming developers – with a spit on Android. ?

Soon after, Tim Cook took the stage to start the 23rd edition of the event, which has more than 1,000 Apple engineers, 112 sessions, 125 laboratories and with the participation of developers from more than 60 countries. As always, an overview of the company was given by the CEO. Let’s go to the highlights:

  • There are currently more than 400 million accounts on the App Store.
  • Today there are more than 650 thousand apps, 225 thousand of which are specific to iPads.
  • More than 30 billion apps have been downloaded to date.
  • More than $ 5 billion has already been paid to developers.
  • 32 more new countries will receive the app store, bringing the number to 155.

11 and 13 inch MacBooks Air (Mid 2012)

The first novelty of the day was the long-awaited update of the MacBooks line, starting with the Air. In some cases, the new models can be configured with Ivy Bridge Core i7 processors dual-core up to 2GHz (with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz), up to 8GB of RAM and 60% faster graphics, with configurable flash memory up to 512GB and backward compatible USB 3.0 ports.

The entry model, 11 inches – a Core i5 dual-core 1.7 GHz, up to 2.6 GHz in Turbo Boost, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of flash storage and Intel HD 4000 graphics processor – costs R $ 3,700. The most expensive model – 13 inches, Core i5 dual-core 1.8GHz and can reach up to 2.8Ghz in Turbo Boost, 4GB of RAM, 256GB of flash storage and Intel HD 4000 graphics processor – costs R $ 6,100 at the Apple Online Store. All are equipped with a FaceTime HD camera, and are available for purchase starting today.

13 and 15 inch MacBooks Pro (Mid 2012)

MacBook Pro can come with Core i7 quad-core 2.7GHz (with Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz), up to 8GB of RAM, graphics 60% faster, GPU GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of memory and up to 750GB of disk storage, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports. The entry model – 13 inches, Core i5 dual-core 2.5GHz, Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD and Intel HD 4000 – costs R $ 4,000, while the busier model – Core i7 quad-core 2.6GHz, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, Intel HD 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of memory – costs R $ 9,600 at the Apple Online Store. Like MacBooks Air, professional notebooks are available for purchase today.

New 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display

However, a new generation of MacBook Pro was also presented, in a single 15-inch version. It is much thinner than the current one, with 1.8 cm in height – very close to the MacBook Air -, very light (2.02 kg), and, confirming rumors, equipped with a Retina display of 2880 Γ— 1800 pixels. As well as the OS X Lion operating system, several software are already prepared for the screen, such as Aperture and Final Cut Pro X. In addition, other large ones such as Photoshop (Adobe) and AutoCAD (Autodesk) will also support the new screen.

In its most basic version, it comes equipped with a Core i7 processor quad-core 2.3GHz (with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz), 8GB of RAM, 256GB of disk space (flash memory), Intel HD 4000 and GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of memory. Its battery holds up to 7 hours (30 days in standby mode), in addition, it has SD card, HDMI, two USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt ports, headphone jack, new MagSafe 2 connector, backlit keyboard , two microphones, FaceTime HD camera and Bluetooth 4.0.

Just like its β€œbrothers”, the new MacBook Pro is already on sale in Brazil, leaving for β€œmeasly” R $ 10,000 – the most expensive version – Core i7 2.6GHz, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz, 8GB of RAM, flash storage 512GB, Intel HD 4000 and GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of memory – I left for β€œmodest” R $ 12,600. : – /
