Also in this area, Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7, a PC system launched in 2009 and still used on more than 20% of computers worldwide. Windows 10 Mobile, however, has not had the same success in a world dominated by Android and iPhone (iOS). O dnetc gathered, in the list below, five Windows Phone system errors that led to the end of the software.

The graphic interface of Windows Phone sought to differentiate itself from the more traditional style used by Android and iPhone (iOS) phones. Although considered innovative by some, navigation through groups of large colored blocks was considered confusing by a significant portion of users.

The blocks of the initial menu displayed information in real time about the respective contents and ended up associated with Windows 8, operating system for PC that bet on the same graphic language and was considered a failure by some users.

2. Problems with Google apps

In the world where services like Gmail and YouTube are extremely popular, the lack of apps to access these tools has proved fatal for Windows Phone. In 2013, YouTube stopped being offered in the Windows Store, making the use of the video platform somewhat unintuitive for Windows Phone users. Anyone wishing to use YouTube needed to open the website in a browser, or find a generic application that met their needs.

3. Late market launch

Microsoft has had a mobile operating system since the 1990s. Windows CE, while not dominant in the smartphone market, was well-established and a popular alternative. However, without touch support and with an extremely limited interface, the platform turned out to be unfeasible with the arrival of Android and iPhone (iOS) phones.

Microsoft's reaction, in the form of the Windows Phone 2010, came late: the alternatives of Apple and Google already dominated the market by that time, and the task of convincing users to switch systems proved unfeasible.

Low market share has fueled a problem that has grown over time: the lack of popular apps. In addition to issues with Google services, Windows for cell phones also ran into the difficulty of attracting developers of new networks and famous services, such as Instagram, which ended support for the system in 2018, or Snapchat.

Despite advantages such as a different graphical interface, Lumia models with a focus on photography and the promise of good performance, the low offer of popular applications proved to be a key point for the disapproval by Windows Phone users.

5. The problem with smartphones

Microsoft's experience with its mobile phone operating system went through two moments in terms of hardware. In the beginning, a minimum specification policy ensured that Windows Phone had a higher hardware profile than rivals with Android. Then came the bet on cheaper phones from the Lumia line.

Neither path has paid off and, at least according to a Nokia engineer, it would not be enough to just get around the limitations in terms of apps, features and interface. Ultimately, the lack of smartphones that really appeal to consumers would already make users of rival systems simply stay on those platforms.
