Winamp, a music player that was successful in the 2000s, launched the 5.8 beta version after five years without an official software update. The edition, released last Friday (19), has full support for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 and has no visible changes, focusing on stability and compatibility with the latest operating systems from Microsoft.
The update note released by Radionomy explains that the reason for the beta release is to encourage users to replace Winamp 5.8, which recently leaked on the web in an unofficial way, so that they can use a more secure and optimized version by the developer itself.

Winamp 5.8 beta also includes the Windows Audio (WASAPI) plugin, which is an API that helps Windows communicate with audio output components. In addition, the player gained a new automatic full-screen option in the video display settings, preference for disabling video support, in addition to several other minor fixes.
It is worth mentioning that the beta version is not the new edition of Winamp announced by Radionomy last week. Previously known as Winamp 6.0, it will have integration with Spotify, Apple Music and other music streaming services, and will be launched only in 2019. There are also versions of the player for Android and iPhone (iOS). Anyway, this release shows the concern of the developers with the huge fan base of the application, which, according to the TechCrunch, still adds more than 100 million active users per month.
