Why isn't my Apple Watch backup showing up on my new watch?

a common event among owners of Apple watches: do you have your watch with the backup It is perfectly made and stored on the iPhone (after all, it is performed completely automatically) and one day, it is affected by some defect. You then exchange for a new one (since repairs are basically impossible) at Apple or an authorized service center. Do you turn on the new device, follow the initial setup screens and where is the backup? Not there.

Before you sit down and cry thinking your entire Apple Watch life has been lost in the air, remember one important factor: Backup doesn't work with earlier versions of watchOS. That is: let's say you have a Watch running the latest version of the system; If Apple sends you a replacement part running an earlier version of watchOS (which is very common), your backup will not work. More than that: it will not even be detected in the clock setting process.

Fortunately, it is very simple (though laborious) to solve this problem: just set your Apple Watch as a new device without restoring any backups. Then update it to the latest available version of watchOS and then pull the backup.

Below we give the stone path in more detail:

  1. Set up your Apple Watch as a new device with no backup.
  2. In the Watch app on the iPhone connected to the watch (in the My Watch tab), go to General Software Update and update watchOS to the latest available version.

  3. When iPhone reports that the update has been applied, go to Apple Watch, unlock it, and wait for it to complete preparations.
  4. Make sure your Sade app settings (Health) is enabled; If you use iCloud to back up your iPhone, go to ICloud Settings (your name) and make sure the Sade app is enabled; Now, if you use iTunes to back up iPhone, encrypt the backup to save that content.

  6. Pair your Apple Watch again by following the onscreen instructions; This time, the backup will appear in the watch setup process.
  7. Important note: The backup you want to be second on the list, since the first one will most likely be the one you created when you unpaired Apple Watch minutes ago to the backup day / time, so you won't be confused. 😉
