WhatsApp Beta has gained support for Android's priority notifications. The feature keeps the messenger’s warnings always on the spot even after other notifications arrive, and can be configured separately for individual and group conversations. In this way, the user can prioritize only direct message alerts from friends, and keep notifications from groups with low priority.
In the tutorial below, see how to enable priority notifications on WhatsApp. To use the function, I need to update the messenger to beta version 2.18.117 and have Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher.

Step 1. Open WhatsApp Beta and access the settings by tapping on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen. Then, tap "Settings".

Step 2. Open "Notifications" and activate the option "Use high priority notifications" in the "Message notifications" section. This prioritizes notifications for individual messages.

Step 3. If you also want to activate the feature for group messages, slide the screen to the "Group notifications" section and activate the option "Use high priority notifications".

In this way, alerts for messages received on WhatsApp will be prioritized in the notification center. In the example below, notice how the messenger notification stays on top even though there are more recent alerts.
