WhatsApp scams: the definitive guide to not falling into a trap

The next step proposed by the scam is the need to share the same message with 30 friends or WhatsApp groups. This strategy allows the coup to gain scale quickly, impacting a large number of users from the most diverse regions, says Emilio Simoni, director of the DFNDR LAB.

The message draws attention by displaying the address marvel.com in the previous link. The site belongs to the Disney Group. However, when opening the page, the user arrives at a website with a final .club. Criminals display fake comments similar to those on Facebook to try to give page credibility.

The digital security company explains that hackers often use alternative domains, such as .club, .pw, among others, due to the low cost of registration and greater difficulty in removal. These domains are typically available from smaller providers.

Most of the time, cybercriminals are able to register the domain using fake credit cards. Until the provider finds out, the scam has already been disseminated to thousands of people, reports PSafe.

Simoni recommends using technological tools to check if a shared address via WhatsApp is true. There are applications that assist in this task, as well as specialized websites for checking websites. PSafe also advises people to be wary of messages that they can share with friends to gain something.

The same coup format has been recorded on several occasions, most recently involving the government program Bolsa Famlia.

Disney said the promotion and the website are not valid. He also pointed out that all our communication with Brazilian fans takes place at the following addresses: facebook.com/MarvelBR, instagram.com/Marvelbrasil and twitter.com/MarvelBR.
