WhatsApp is preparing a function to organize messages with colored labels and, therefore, categorize chats in a similar way to email services, such as Gmail. By applying thematic labels, the user will be able to better classify the content of the messenger to speed up the search for information, without having to use the name of the contact or words exchanged in the sought conversation.
The new function has been confirmed in the question and answer section of the official website of the messenger, but has not yet reached users and, for now, cannot be reproduced. The page describes how the feature works in WhatsApp Beta and in the final version of the Android app. It is not yet known when the novelty will be made available, nor the systems in which it appears first.

The tags function will allow you to separate conversations by subject. Currently, the search is restricted to searching keywords in contact names or in the content of conversations. The novelty should be useful mainly for those who use WhatsApp on the desktop, allowing to create categories with names of projects or clients, or indicate levels of urgency.
According to the official website, the messenger will allow you to create up to 20 tags. It will be possible to assign more than one category to the same message or conversation.
In WhatsApp for Android, the procedure of categorizing messages will operate as the function of replying to messages or fixing conversations. When you keep an item pressed, the app displays a new Label button at the top of the screen. The user can select the option to designate a category.
The main menu of the application will also include a new option Labels to manage the indicators with functions to edit, delete or add a color to the labels. From there, the user can also find conversations categorized in a list. In the general search for WhatsApp, the user can use the tag name in hashtag format (#) to filter messages by theme.
