WhatsApp may allow group video calls for up to 8 participants soon

Video calling applications and platforms have become the preferred way for many to keep in touch with family, friends and co-workers in times of pandemic and social isolation. In order not to lose ground in relation to the most popular platforms, WhatsApp will soon be able to allow video calls to up to eight participants.

In early April, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg decided to facilitate calls for groups of up to four members. Now, rumors advanced by the WABetainfo website indicate that the new functionality allows double the number of participants, as long as everyone has installed the latest beta version available for Android and iOS.

Rumors say that to start a video call with up to eight people, the user will have to select the participants in advance, and they will not be able to include members who are not part of the contact list on their mobile phone. For now, there is still no indication of when the new functionality arrives and Facebook has not yet confirmed its existence in the next update to WhatsApp.

Recently, Facebook decided to tighten up the spread of false news about COVID-19 on WhatsApp and imposed limits on the sharing of popular messages, which can no longer be sent simultaneously to five people, for just one conversation at a time.

In addition, the application now marks messages that have been forwarded many times with a double arrow tag, to know that what you received was not created by your contact. The measure aims to alert recipients that the message is circulating and may contain false information.
