WhatsApp launches test to limit message forwarding

O Whatsapp continues to work to reduce the spread of false news (fake news) through your app. The company recently released an update in which the app started to indicate when a message was received by forwarding, and has now announced that it will limit the number of messages forwarded to all messenger users.

The announcement was made on the company's official blog, in which Facebook (owner of WhatsApp) announced that it is launching a test to limit the scope of message forwarding within the service. The limit will be further reduced in India, where there is a greater movement of information exchange.

Today, we are launching a test to limit the forwarding of messages, which will be applied to everyone who uses WhatsApp. In India, where people send more messages, photos and videos than any other country in the world, we also tested a limit of less than five chats at once and removed the fast forward button next to media messages.

The removal of the quick share button should only occur in India, as disclosed by the Recode. In addition, WhatsApp customers outside the Asian country can now forward messages to at 20 conversations.

Still according to the Recode, a WhatsApp spokesman told the website that this measure, along with others taken earlier, was made after yet another death recorded in India, at 17 in the last year involving false news, as reported by TechCrunch.

We are horrified by the violence in India and have announced several changes to different products to help solve these problems. a challenge that requires an action by society, government and technology companies.

Obviously, limiting the number of people who can forward and receive forwarded messages will not solve the problem, but WhatsApp hopes that this will lessen the viral impact of fake news on social media.

WhatsApp implemented the feature of forwarding a message to multiple conversations at once in 2016, with one person being able to forward any type of content to more than 250 conversations. The company has not indicated a date when the tests should take place, but it is likely that in the next few days we will follow the announced changes.
