WhatsApp may go down for a portion of its more than 1.5 billion users worldwide without notice. Falls and instabilities like the one that occurred last week are unexpected and may not be immediately detected. In general, the user only suspects that WhatsApp has crashed and is not working properly when a conversation is suddenly interrupted or when the number of notifications drastically reduces after a certain time interval. Here are four ways to check if WhatsApp has stopped working on your Android or iPhone (iOS) phone or because of a server failure.

1. Check how the app works
Start the investigation by checking if the problem is not just on your phone. Close the app and reopen, and try sending a message to more than one contact. In general, WhatsApp server failures cause the message to leave the app but not to its destination. If the message remains with the clock icon next to it indicating that it wasn't even sent, it's important to test the connection: Try using other social networks and opening websites in your browser to find out if 4G or Wi-Fi is working.

2. View monitoring reports
WhatsApp malfunctions are often accused by monitoring sites that issue reports online. Check services like Outage.Report (https://outage.report/whatsapp), Down Detector (https://downdetector/status/whatsapp) and Is It Down Right Now (https://www.isitdownrightnow) /whatsapp.html). Server errors often occur in specific regions, so it is important to look for crash reports specifically in Brazil. All of these tools have the map feature.

3. Check Google Trends searches
In Google Trends, you can find out if there was a spike in searches like whatsapp crashed, whatsapp down, or whatsapp stopped working. If queries of this type have suddenly increased in the last few hours, this could be a server error. Enter keywords in the upper field, set Brazil as the scan country, and filter by Last Hour or Last 4 Hours. A rising trend chart possibly indicates that WhatsApp has been down for several people.

4. Search Twitter Complaints
Users have the habit of using Twitter to complain when some Facebook product goes down, like WhatsApp. Use the search tool and filter results by Most Recent. A widespread application failure tends to generate a high volume of tweets describing the same problem, bringing the term WhatsApp to Trending Topics. It's also worth searching for reports using hashtags like #whatsappdown.
