WhatsApp announces end of support for iPhone 4 in 2020 | Social networks

WhatsApp announced the end of support for the iOS 7 system in 2020. In practice, this means that iPhone 4 owners will no longer be able to update the messenger from that year. The messenger explains that old operating systems will no longer have new features in the app.

In addition, some functions may experience instability or simply stop working. The company also guides the migration to newer devices, such as iPhone generations with iOS 8 onwards, to maintain the use of the messenger.

The change, however, should not impact so many users, since iOS 7 focuses on just 0.22% of cell phones, according to data from Apteligent. With the decision, WhatsApp should focus efforts on more popular systems. IOS 11, for example, is installed on more than 86% of Apple's mobile devices.

IOS 7 was announced by Apple in 2013, the same day the iPhone 5S was released. The mobile operating system stood out, at the time, for bringing a completely new design, which, until today, serves as a basis in the most current versions of iOS.

Apple stopped selling the iPhone 4 in Brazil in 2014, however, even today, it is still possible to find it in the used smartphone market, as a more affordable option. The price is around R $ 400.

Others also lose support

WhatsApp also released a schedule for other operating systems. Among them is Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread, launched in 2010. See, in the list below, even when the app will be available for previous versions of Android, iOS and Nokia S40:

  • Nokia S40: December 31, 2018;
  • Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread or earlier: February 1, 2020;
  • iOS 7 or earlier: February 1, 2020

It is worth remembering that, since the beginning of 2017, the application has ended support for older systems, such as Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10, which no longer receive updates. Windows Phone 7 and iOS 6 also make the list.
