WhatsAgent: Online Notifier and Last Seen History is one of the latest WhatsApp spy apps to gain popularity among Android users. The app aims to monitor when one or more contacts are active in the messenger, and promises to indicate when two people have been exchanging messages in a certain period.
The program has been available for free download on the Google Play Store since September and has since accumulated over one hundred thousand installations. However, the history of similar apps gives hints of fraud. See below to see if it really works and what are the risks of downloading to your phone.

How does WhatsAgent work?
The main function of WhatsAgent is to monitor when a given contact goes online on WhatsApp. Just enter the person's number to start receiving notifications whenever they open the messenger. These moments are marked in a graph that, over time, resonates the history of times in which the contact is usually online.
Some users who download the app usually register two numbers at the same time as a way of trying to find out if two people have the habit of being online together. In theory, the information would indicate a greater chance that they are talking.
WhatsAgent does not give access to other people's messages, photos, videos or audio. To some extent, it only replaces the act of opening WhatsApp to check when a particular contact is online, with the added bonus of recording times in a chart and comparing it with another user.
The app is free to download, but begins to require payment of a weekly or monthly fee after just a few hours of operation. This is the main reason for complaints from users who rated the app on the Google Play Store. The weekly price is around R $ 25.

The application has gone dark. Other apps called "WhatsAgent" appear in APK format in alternative Android stores and from the clues that the program has already been active under other names. One of them is "WhatsAgent: Whats Tracker", which was made available on the Google Play Store, but was later taken off the air. Users report on Google forums that they actually paid for premium, but the app soon stopped working. The "Whats Agent 2" app is also mentioned on online forums.
There is a strong relationship between "WhatsAgent: Whats Tracker" and "WhatsAgent: Online Notifier and Last Seen History", which appears prominently in the Android store and is only three months old. The apps have different icons, but the interface is the same, as are the promised functions.
The manufacturers, however, are different. While the old app had been published by a company called Global Indoor Technology, which is currently active by Dartima LLC. The application page mentions Michail Sikorsky, from Belarus, as a responsible developer. However, the name does not appear on famous open source repositories or on LinkedIn profiles.

Unlike apps like GB WhatsApp and Yo WhatsApp, WhatsAgent is not a modified version of the original messenger. It functions only as an online status monitor for contacts and does not replace the real application for exchanging messages. This feature gives the user some security, since the app does not ask for cell phone permissions and, therefore, it should not cause problems with the privacy of those who download it.
However, doubts remain about the suitability of the developer. With a history of similar apps that go off the air without notice, the app is not the most reliable and may disappear from the Android store right after the user pays the premium. It is unclear whether old versions are removed by Google or the developer itself, but the chance of fraud remains open.
There are still doubts about the effectiveness of the functions. Aside from the typical dilemma of monitoring other people's online status, there is no guarantee that the graph generated by the program is representative that two users have been talking during a given period. Tests conducted by dnetc they also show that the notifications are inconsistent, especially if the monitored contact uses WhatsApp Web.
