What to do after installing Deepin 15.10

Deepin is one of the most visually appealing Linux distributions, that kind of design that: Either you love it or hate it.

Be at blur, various concepts from other aggregate graphical interfaces, visual consistency or applications developed for distribution.

If you want to install the new version released, Deepin 15.10, this post is just demonstrating a post-installation of what you should do after installing the system.

Starting at the beginning

Prior to any procedure when installing a new system, obviously update it.

This ensures greater safety and corrects any eventual bugs contained in the release.

Then open the system settings panel and go to section Update.

Click on the option and check if it contains any updates for the system.

It is common during some upgrades for Deepin to prompt you to reboot, so proceed as instructed.

In the past it was necessary to change the servers when installing an app or performing a system upgrade, in the latest versions Deepin can intelligently locate the server closest to you.

One step less, of course you can manually select this option.

Watch the following video with every step by step.

Hands in the dough!

In the option Accounts You can create a user for the system by clicking on the Create Account button or going to your user, you can make some changes, such as: change the avatar, change the user name, change the password, enable automatic login (disabled) enter your password when turning on your computer), as well as the option to log in without a password.

In Screen You can adjust the brightness, scale and if you use more than one monitor (which is my case) choose the behavior of the screens that you like best.

Deepin is a very beautiful distribution, as I mentioned earlier, but some customizations can be made.

In category Customization, system fonts, transparency, icon themes, and applications, as well as the decision to keep interface effects enabled, can be made.

It can be done.

If you want to exchange your Deepin's DNS with Google's, for example, you can proceed like this old video, but not dated to my channel OSystematic.

Just be sure to uncheck the auto option and leave it manual, just like me ().

Balance settings between sound, system volume, microphone are all in Sound.

One of the new features of the version is the possibility to selectively disable the sound effects of the system.

Just click the Sound Effects button.

Particularly in the taste of sounds when starting the system, or whatever task it performs.

It is up to you to select the effects you like best.

The system date and time can be changed in the section of the same name, Date and timeThe Auto Sync option is very useful and eliminates settings (when connected to the internet the system identifies the date and time).

Power Settings It is the ideal section to choose between screen off options, how long the PC will be suspended, need to use passwords when waking up the PC etc.

On my desktop I like to configure the monitor to never fade.

In Keyboard and Language Shortcuts may be assigned, numeric keypad enabled, notifications when enabling Caps Lock such as system and keyboard language.

If your keyboard language is not in Portuguese.

Click Keyboard Language, search by its language, mark it as default and if you want remove the other.

Installing the Video Driver on Deepin

In the system menu search for Deepin Graphics Driver Manager.

Open the Deepin driver manager, select the driver for your device and proceed as the program indicates.

Below is a video demonstrating the entire procedure on an NVidia GTX 1060.

The logic is similar to the others.

Remembering that Deepin does not have a very good reputation with hybrid video cards, contained in notebooks.

And for the most ardent players who make use of SteamPlay, because of the versioning of their drivers, the system is not the most suitable for such practice.

Another important step is to back up your data if the procedure goes wrong.

Interface Shortcuts

Another interesting point of Deepin, are its shortcuts.

With software developed and designed for the system, some "tricks" are unknown to many of its users.

Check out some on this video (the video has a little time, but it's worth it).

System Usability Settings

Deepin has an interface that can merge its behavior, aggregating usability of various systems.

Be one dock or a DDE taskbar, Deepin Desktop Environment, has options like hot corners with shortcuts to various features.

Static customizations like, swapping wallpapers etc.

They can be easily performed on the system.

For more details, see the video with the tips contained in this post, and more.

As one of the most attention-grabbing distributions, Deepin is an interesting choice that is worth the test.

Even with some limitations, specifically if you are a gamer the system may please less users hardcores.
