If you have already purchased a product over the Internet, you may have noticed that it arrived at your home accompanied by a piece of paper that contained information such as addresses, seller’s corporate name, customer name, price of the merchandise and other values. This is the DANFE (Auxiliary Document of Electronic Invoice), which is nothing more than a simplified version of the Electronic Invoice (NF-e).

Although it presents the main information contained in the NF-e, DANFE does not replace it. It is just a graphical representation of the electronic invoice, that is, a printed document that is not a physical version of the NF-e, but is very close to that. It is worth mentioning that DANFE does not have legal validity.

The main function of DANFE is to accompany the goods during their journey from the seller to the buyer, providing basic information about the operation in progress (issuer, recipient, values, etc.). Although it is mandatory when sending products, the document has no tax value, and it is not necessary to keep it after receipt.

As it does not contain all NF-e data, DANFE serves to facilitate access to the main information. With the 44-digit numeric access key, it is possible to consult the electronic invoice on the website of the Treasury Department (Sefaz) and certify whether there is, in fact, an NF-e that proves that transaction online.

In addition, DANFE assists in the registration of transactions documented by electronic invoice, in cases where the recipient is not a taxpayer accredited to issue NF-e. The auxiliary document also allows you to collect the signature of the recipient for proof of delivery of goods or provision of services.

What information does it contain?

In addition to the 44-digit access key and bar code, there is other information that needs to be included in the DANFE. Are they:

  • Issuer details (CNPJ, state registration, company name, full address, telephone);
  • The phrase “Auxiliary Document of the Electronic Invoice – DANFE”;
  • Nature of the operation (entry or exit);
  • Table with the products / services code, description and NCM (Mercosul Common Nomenclature), which includes unit, quantity, unit value, total value and ICMS calculation basis, among other information;

The insertion of data such as date, departure time, vehicle license plate and carrier is mandatory only if the company has access to this information before issuing the DANFE.

How to issue DANFE online?

The Finance Secretariat recommends that DANFE be issued by the same software, system or portal used to issue the NF-e. The objective is to avoid divergences between the two documents. In other words, the trader needs to configure his NF-e generator system so that it also issues DANFE.

A free and reliable alternative is the Electronic Invoice Issuer Program, developed by the NF-e Project team in partnership with Sefaz / SP. The software can be used by companies across the country, as it is integrated with the NF-e authorization systems of the Finance Departments of all states. To download it, just access the link www.emissornfe.fazenda.sp.gov.br/download_v2.html.

It is also possible to issue DANFE online for free. Sites like webdanfe.com.br and danfeonline.com.br allow you to generate the document from the NF-e XML file or access key. It is worth mentioning that, as the services are not official, there is no way to guarantee whether the online DANFE issuer is safe. For this reason, it is important to check, after issuance, whether the DANFE data matches that of the NF-e.
