Error 502 Bad Gateway is a code that indicates a problem accessing a website linked to a server failure. It arises when there is a failure in communication between two or more servers that relay data to each other to load the page. The causes are linked, among other factors, to a possible overload of accesses on the website accessed. That is, the error does not refer to problems on the user's computer. Despite this, it is possible to try some steps to make sure that, in fact, it is not a false alarm. The following are six possible solutions for error 502 Bad Gateway.

Even if there is a failure on the website, it can be temporary. The 502 Bad Gateway error can be caused when one server receives a bad response from another, but the following requirement may work. In that case, simply updating the site can work. It is worth clicking the button directly in the browser or pressing the F5 key several times to check if the problem has been solved.

2. Confirm that there is a problem on the website
If the problem is not solved, it is possible to check if the failure also occurs with other people. Monitors like IsItDownRightNow (isitdownrightnow.com) can tell if there is a considerable amount of complaints about the same site elsewhere. In general, if there is a problem, the tool will show an orange or red signal that confirms the existence of a fault.

3. Switch browsers and clear the cache
If the site is apparently working for other people, I need to look for solutions on the computer. Start by clearing your browser's cache and cookies. In Chrome, just go to the History menu in the settings and start cleaning by checking only the options for cookies and cache. Then, try to access the site one more time. If it still doesn't come back, try opening it in another browser, such as Edge, Firefox or Safari on macOS.

If the page insists on displaying the same error on multiple browsers with clean cookies and cache, I need to check the router. Restart the device to renew the connection and eliminate any network problems that may prevent the site from loading. Some devices have an on-off switch. If not, simply unplug the equipment and reconnect a few seconds later.

Another possible solution involves changing the DNS. This service is responsible for translating the website address to the corresponding server IP. If there is a failure in the process, it is possible that the user will fall on a wrong server that is failing to communicate. In general, the connection is configured with the DNS used by the ISP, but it is possible to change it in the network adapter settings. Google's DNS (184.108.40.206 and 220.127.116.11), Cloudfare's (18.104.22.168 and 22.214.171.124) are two options known for their efficiency.

6. Update and restart your computer
If nothing works, there may be some conflict on the PC itself. Network failures can be corrected by simply resetting the computer. In addition, it is possible to try to download the pending updates for Windows 10. If there are many packages not installed, one of them may solve a known and fixed problem, but which still needs to be applied.
