What do users of a new smartphone want? Larger screens and more powerful processors

Regarding processors, the smartphone market is basically divided into four families, but Qualcomm leads with more than half of smartphones (56%). This is followed by Samsung's Exynos with 16.7%, Huawei's Kirin with 13.9%, and finally MediaTek with 11.8%. Of all, MediaTek was the one that registered the biggest increase in the market share, of about 2.8%, basically seeking a share of Qualcomm, which decreased 3.3% compared to the previous quarter.

Also noteworthy with regard to processors, that the overwhelming majority of users already prefer eight-core chips, accounting for 92.5% of the market. And this is linked to the need to feed high-resolution screens, and equipment with more and more built-in cameras.

As for memory and storage, users' preferences are also more demanding. Smartphones with 6 GB of RAM stand out with 33.2% of preferences, but 4 GB continues to be widely used, with 30.6% of registrations. AnTuTu shows an increase of 1.2% smartphones with 8 GB of RAM, while the previous two decreased 3.9%. Soon, the equipment with 8 GB should become standard, although currently they represent 14.5% of this cake.

Having a device with 64 GB of internal storage represents 35.9% of the preferences, but those who want to double that capacity are assumed next, with 35.5% of smartphones registered in AnTuTu. This difference can be changed already in the next quarter, says the expert. The ability to record and consume video at 4K, and even 8K, dictates the need for more space available.

Looking at the version of the most popular operating system, Android 9 continues to lead the preferences with 56.3% of users. However, AnTuTu claims that there was a 17.1% drop compared to the previous quarter. This means that there is a smooth migration to Android 10, which rose 16.7% in the same period, although it only represents a total of 28.6%.
