1. Why is iTunes discontinued?

Revolutionary when it was launched 18 years ago, iTunes features were no longer up against new streaming media apps like Spotify and Netflix. These services have rendered iTunes' original functionality as a repository for digital hard disk downloads obsolete. The program has been losing popularity in recent times, so Apple's announcement to discontinue it was expected.

In addition, the accumulation of iTunes features made the program too heavy and slowed as functions were added to the platform. ITunes currently allows for purchases through an online store, and it also manages music, videos, podcasts, books, and apps. The app also lets you sync files from branded mobile devices such as iPods and iPhones. ITunes, which has always been praised for providing users with the agility to listen and manage music, ended up with slow loading and confusing functionality.

2. What happens to the media library?

ITunes functions will be replaced by three apps, and the user's library will be relocated according to the media format in question. Music and playlists will migrate to Apple Music. In addition to suggesting new tracks according to user preferences, the program also offers streaming subscription. Those who prefer to listen to music offline can continue to buy tracks or albums separately, which will be stored on Apple Music.

Already the radio programs will be managed by Apple Podcasts. In the meantime, Apple TV will be responsible for the streaming services available for iOS and tvOS, both with Apple Store-purchased content and with paid-channel programs like HBO and Showtime. Audiobooks purchased from iTunes will be transferred to the Apple Books app.

3. How to sync Apple devices on macOS?

ITunes is also responsible for syncing Apple mobile devices with the computer, such as the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. From macOS Catalina, this integration will be done through Finder. All it takes is for the user to connect their device to their computer so that they can manage their account directly in the file explorer, without having to use iTunes.

4. What happens to iTunes for Windows and macOS?

ITunes will no longer exist on Apple's operating system from macOS Catalina, and will be replaced by Apple Music, Podcasts, and Apple TV. Downloads will still be available in a sidebar on Apple Music for Macs, and the company ensures that pre-existing iTunes credits and gift cards will still be valid.

According to the BBC British TV's statement, iTunes remains on Windows normally. Windows 10 users will still have access to the program application, while older editions of the Microsoft system may use the software.
