It seems that yesterday was the emergence – to our amazement – of the first hard drives of 1TB, burying the era when the storage capacity of personal computers was measured in gigabytes. This story, however, has just won a new chapter with the announcement, by Western Digital, of the launch of its new hard drive with an impressive 2TB, for a medical $ 300.
Its main technical characteristics are:
- Capacity: 2TB.
- 32MB of cache.
- Variable speed.
- Size: 3.5 inches.
- 500GB / layer, four integrated layers.
- 3GB / sec SATA with NCQ.
- Exclusive SATA power connector.
- PMR (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording) technology.
- RoHS compliant with European legislation that requires certain hazardous substances to be used in electronic product manufacturing processes.
The 2TB Caviar Green, model WD20WEADS, has 3.5 ″, 32MB cache and four platters 500GB. In preliminary tests of the portal Hot Hardware, did well in relation to the 1TB competitors. This is the first internal hard drive to bring ordinary users 2TB of storage capacity.
