Everyone talks about the services as the new apple of the eye of Apple, and no wonder – the segment is growing so that it will soon be the biggest growth engine of the company, surpassing even the iPhone. But do you know what is another category that is growing rapidly in Cupertino and should be more valued? Wearable!
Who brought the reflection was the analyst Neil Cybart, from the website Above Avalon. According to him, it is difficult to specify the performance and growth of each category of Apple, since the company no longer discloses sales figures specific to each segment; even so, all estimates point to a very healthy rise in the sector – so that it can even pass the iPad it’s the Mac as Apple’s third largest category by the end of next year, behind only the iPhone it’s from services.
At Apple, the Wearables, Home and Accessories category is basically comprised of the Apple Watch, by AirPods and Beats headphones – in addition to Apple TV and HomePod; the first two, however, make up almost all of the sector’s sales – something like 60 million of the total 70 million sales, as estimated by the analyst.
According to Cybart, the segment will generate about $ 16 billion for Apple in revenue throughout 2019, with an estimated annual growth of between 55% and 60%; in the third fiscal quarter of this year, the category almost surpassed the Services sector as the main revenue generator for Apple in absolute numbers.
Still according to the analyst, Apple’s great triumph is to have sales basically “guaranteed” for the foreseeable future due to the connection that users have with their ecosystem. According to him, the installed base of Apple Watch and AirPods could reach 100 million users in the near future – the target is already close to half in the case of the watch, and will arrive there soon in the case of wireless headphones.
It remains to be seen if Apple is interested in thickening the broth of wearables: rumors abound about possible augmented reality glasses from the company, which would certainly attract even more attention to the segment. Whether they are real or not, however, only time will tell.
