Waze gets its first major update in four years, the first after being purchased by Google

The first time we talked about Waze here on the website it was in the beginning of 2011. At the time, he was still little known and very ugly. In October of that year the app gained a new look in its version 3.0 and started to take off, until it was acquired by Google in mid-2013.

Since then, Waze has received some updates with good news, but overall it hasn't changed that much. Today, Google released version 4.0 of it with a completely renewed look and finally adapted to the 4.7 and 5.5 inch screens of the latest iPhones.

Version 4.0 of Waze presents a new look to facilitate navigation, alerts and sharing. Navigation steps have been reduced to a minimum. The Waze map, menus and alert system have been redesigned for greater visibility and clarity on the map, including better organization, brighter buttons and alert pins with color codes by type. From head to toe, Waze has been revamped with a stronger focus on the driver and the social GPS experience.

The release notes of the new version say that it provides less touches to start your journey, send places and destinations, it brings a new HEC (estimated arrival time) panel which organizes everything you need in one place (see alerts , check alternative routes, add stops on your way or quickly send the HEC to friends and family), a new map that is easier to understand, with a clearer look and focused on your route, now easier to help others on the road with a menu alerts faster and with a new look, alerts are now with a color code so you can instantly recognize them on the map, smart notifications to leave in time for your events, based on traffic conditions and travel time Finally, it also comes with a new feature for vehicle rotation.
