Instagram is testing the possibility of the user requesting, within the application itself, that their account receive the blue seal of verified account. The experimental form was released on Wednesday (10) within the settings menu of the app of some iPhone users (iOS) in Australia, and other countries not specified. The test will be released for Android devices from these same regions in the coming weeks.

The order is only the first step in verifying the account. Instagram needs to prove its authenticity, influence and exclusivity. The user needs to prove social network his identity, providing username and an official photo document, showing his full name and date of birth.
Currently, the seal is granted to profiles of personalities, influencers and large companies to prove that that official account, but it was never clear what criteria were adopted by the social network to distribute the badges. According to the Strategic Partner Manager for Instagram in Australia, Nicci Meek, the release will show transparency in the process. Our community has asked us for more transparency around this issue, and with today's announcement we are sharing clear details about verification requirements and eligibility criteria, he said in a statement.

The move also wants to put an end to rumors that Instagram employees themselves would receive money through clandestine negotiations to release authentications. "This new feature will give our community the opportunity to understand the process behind Instagram verification. We believe that opening verification to the public will also work to protect our community," adds Meek.
Instagram has not announced until when the tests will be carried out or if they will be implemented in other countries, such as Brazil. As this is an experiment, it is also not possible to say whether the function will be definitively inserted in the platform.
