Until then, medical patient records were performed at several locations, requiring you to log in to the laboratory / clinic website and gather this information manually. Apple decided to work with the health community to adopt a consumer friendly approach, creating health records based on FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), a standard for the transfer of electronic medical records.

Users will now have medical information from various institutions organized in a single view that covers allergies, conditions, immunizations, laboratory results, medications, procedures and vital signs, and receive notifications when their data is updated. Health record data is encrypted and protected with the user's password.

“Our goal is to help consumers live a better day. We work closely with the health community to create an experience that everyone has wanted for years to view medical records easily and securely on their iPhone, ”said Jeff Williams, Apple COO. "By enabling customers to see their health in general, we hope to help consumers better understand their health and help them lead healthier lives."

Here are some comments from Apple partners about the news:

Streamlining information sharing between patients and their caregivers can go a long way in making the patient's experience positive. That's why we're excited to be working with Apple to make accessing secure medical records on an iPhone simple for a patient like checking email.

Stephanie Reel, director of information for Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Putting the patient at the center of their care, allowing them to manage and control their own health records, has been a focus for us at Cedars-Sinai for some time. We are excited to see Apple take the lead in this space, allowing consumers access to their medical information on their iPhones. Apple is uniquely positioned to help adopt the scale, as it has a safe and reliable platform and has adopted the latest open industry standards at a time when the industry is well positioned to respond.

Darren Dworkin, chief information officer at Cedars-Sinai.

The new section “Health Records” is available to patients from the above medical institutions as part of the iOS 11.3 beta. In the coming months, more institutions will connect to health records, offering patients access to this resource. More information about the novelty can be seen on this Apple page.

Let's hope that this expansion is global for now, there is nothing new about the Brazilian website of Apple.
