Contrary to these expectations, however, a survey by Promobit showed that the most successful offering on Black Friday 2018 was toilet paper. In addition to this, other unusual products, such as flea medicine, toothpaste and sachet mayonnaise, caught the attention of consumers on the promotional date.

Although it seems odd, the most successful product last Black Friday was a 24-roll triple-leaf toilet paper package, offered for $ 10.90. According to Fabio Carneiro, head of Promobit's commercial, the episode is the perfect example of the impulse buying phenomenon. More unusual purchases are expected for Black Friday 2019, which takes place on November 29th.

"It's hard to imagine anyone waiting for Black Friday to buy toilet paper or toothpaste, but many consumers are driven to make the purchase when they find a very good offer: it's the well-known opportunity shopping," says Carneiro.
The case can also be explained from recent changes in the behavior of the Brazilian consumer, which is incorporating habits of buyers from outside the country.
