What are unpleasant places?

It is no secret that almost every instagrammer’s dream is to have the feed organized, filled with beautiful and harmonious photos. The popularization of Instagram gave rise to a new parameter of visual enhancement, in which sharing experiences on the social network is not enough. It is necessary that the moments are represented from visually pleasing clicks, to attract the public’s attention and, consequently, many likes.

It is in this context that instagramable places appear, spaces whose aesthetic composition helps to make the publications feed attractive and harmonious. The scenarios considered ideal for the «perfect picture» vary, ranging from colorful environments designed for this specific purpose to somewhat unusual locations, such as the city of Pripyat, in Ukraine, which is next to Chernobyl, where the worst accident occurred nuclear story. Meet some of them below.

A lake in Novosibirsk, Russia, has become a pilgrimage spot for influencers looking to produce perfect Instagram photos. With crystal clear turquoise waters, the lake formed the background of photos of newlyweds kissing on its banks, of bathers practicing stand up paddle and influencers posing in a bikini or doing yoga on the sand.

But what looks like a paradise is, in fact, a dam where toxic waste is released from a thermoelectric plant that supplies the approximately 1.6 million inhabitants of Novosibirsk. Among the residues thrown into the false lake are burnt coal, calcium salts and metal oxides, elements that make it a highly toxic and harmful dump for the skin at minimal contact. Far from being pure, the waters of the «Siberian Maldives» are turquoise due to a chemical reaction.

The site of the worst nuclear accident in history has become the setting for numerous photos of young people on Instagram. The phenomenon is largely due to the success of the Chernobyl series, produced by HBO that shows the explosion of one of the reactors of the nuclear power plant of the same name, in 1986. Tourists visit the city of Pripyat, in Ukraine, and take photos with animals or touching toxic objects that survived the disaster. There are also those who take off their clothes to pose in the middle of the place. The somewhat morbid fashion yields more criticism than likes: most Instagram users ask for respect for the victims of the nuclear accident.

Tourists are obsessed with a street in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Known as «train street», the road is cut by a century-old railway line that runs extremely close to the cafes and houses on the sidewalks on both sides. The place attracted so many people in search of the perfect photo that, on October 12, the government ordered the closure of the cafes, which opened to serve the boom of visitors. According to Vietnamese authorities, the measure was taken to protect tourists themselves. Six days earlier, on October 6, a train was forced to change its route because there were too many people on the tracks.

Imagine a penthouse flooded with natural light, with high ceilings, shiny wooden floors, rooftop deck, living room decorated with furniture rosĂ© gold, kitchen equipped with a floor-to-ceiling wine cellar and impeccable white walls. It seems like the perfect place to live, doesn’t it? It turns out that while this apartment exists and is in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood, no one lives there.

That’s because the 222 square meter space was designed as a location for use by Instagram digital influencers. As expected, the price for posing in the «perfect setting» is high. Anyone who wants to rent coverage for a month will need to pay the astronomical amount of US $ 15,000 (about R $ 60,260, in direct conversion).

The fashion of instagramable places has also caught on in Brazil. In SĂŁo Paulo, the FunCast exhibition created 28 interactive scenarios to help users produce perfect photos and videos for social networks. Colorful, the spaces have everything: from a retro bathtub, through cotton clouds to giant unicorns. The show will run until November 20 at Shopping Iguatemi in RibeirĂŁo Preto.

In Rio de Janeiro, in turn, the first instagramable space was opened in July, at Botafogo Praia Shopping. With free entrance, the environment features brightly colored walls and bright signs, as well as fun facilities, such as rooms with a ball pool and showcases full of pool noodles. Still in the capital of Rio, the World’s Sweetest Museum gathers boxes decorated with brigadeiros, marshmallows and donuts for those who want to fill the Instagram feed with photos in tone candy color. The exhibition is on display at Shopping Village Mall, in Barra da Tijuca.
