Ubuntu's new clear theme will no longer be the default in version 19.10

Due to the short term, developers go back and the new light theme will no longer be the default for Ubuntu 19.10.

A few days ago we posted here on the blog a article about new Ubuntu clear theme. In the article, we report developers' plans to bring the new theme as standard in Ubuntu 19.10. These plans that, due to technical difficulties, have just changed. new-theme-clear-ubuntu-will not be-standard-in-version-19.10

The creation of the new clear variation of the Yaru theme came somewhat late in the development of Ubuntu 19.10. Although, to the most layman's eyes, it seems like a simple change to make. Changing the color of headerbars from gray to white takes a lot more work than it looks.

The theme of the system has to be able to integrate in a coherent way with at least thousands of different applications, only a small part of which follow GNOME's design patterns. It's really quite easy, just changing the color from gray to white, any user with minimal knowledge can change the color through the theme files. It's hard and labor-intensive to make this new color, designs, button effects and menus perfectly adapt to as many applications and the entire system as possible. That said, it is clear why the plans to bring the new theme as a standard in the next version did not work out.

It is already defined that the default theme in version 19.10 will be an updated and slightly modified version of Yaru Ambience, which has been the default theme of Ubuntu since version 18.10.

But if you are one of the many people who were excited about the arrival of the new theme, don't be discouraged! The new clear version of the Yaru theme will still be available on Ubuntu 19.10. Just not as standard. With the help of GNOME Tweaks (Settings) it will be possible to switch between Yaru variations: ambience, dark, and the new light version. The goal remains the same, to make the light theme standard. However, only in Ubuntu 20.04.

In my opinion, changing plans when Yaru light becomes the completely acceptable default theme. It is better to extend the deadline and release better finished software than to meet the stipulated first deadline and deliver an error-free product that is not fully functional.

Were you looking forward to the arrival of Yaru light as the default theme? What do you think about the recent change in plans? Tell us in the comments.
