Uber tests option where drivers can choose the price of their trip | Productivity

Drivers operating at Santa Barbara, Palm Springs and Sacramento airports can, starting this morning, participate in a modality in which it is possible to increase fares up to a maximum of five times the normal amount charged by Uber. When a passenger requests a ride, the app will forward it to the driver with the lowest price.

The most recent measure among a series of changes that the company has made in response to AB5. The fear of the author of the project, Congresswoman Lorena Gonzales, and of the supporters of the text that workers classified as independent contractors will be manipulated by the company instead of being able to exercise their trade freely. With the new function, Uber hopes to show that it offers autonomy and freedom of collection to drivers.

A source familiar with the feature told the Wall Street Journal that the company is testing in smaller cities, and should evaluate the results to decide whether to expand the initiative to other locations. The resource is not expected to arrive in Brazil.
