Uber, 99 and Cabify drivers can now become MEI; see how it works | Productivity

Drivers of transportation applications, such as Uber, 99, and Cabify, can now join the MEI individual microentrepreneur program. The government authorized this change with Resolution No. 148, published in the Official Journal of the Union last Thursday (8). The decision includes professionals who earn up to R $ 81 thousand per year, which is equivalent to about R $ 6.7 thousand per month.

The novelty allows the driver to have a CNPJ, can issue invoices, rent card machines and make loans with cheaper interest. In addition, MEI contribution time may allow retirement by age. In order to access these benefits, an initial registration and monthly payment of the registration, in the amount of R $ 49.90, must be made.

In July of this year, the MEI program celebrated its 10th anniversary, during which time it encouraged the formalization of small businesses and self-employed workers, such as salespeople, private teachers, sales promoters, reviewers, and now app drivers. There are about 500 professions divided into three sectors: service, commerce and industry.

With the payment of this fee on time, small business owners are entitled to other benefits, covered by the INSS: maternity pay, disability retirement, sick pay, reclusion allowance and death pension for their dependents. Program contribution time also counts for retirement by age. Just consult how many months are needed for each benefit.

Application drivers wishing to join the MEI program must register on the Entrepreneur Portal (www.portaldoempreendedor.gov.br). Data such as CPF, voter registration, residential zip code, active mobile number and data on the latest income tax returns will be required. Then follow the steps to complete the formalization of the activity.

In addition to paying the monthly fee, the microentrepreneur also has to submit the Annual National Simple Microenterprise Declaration (DASN SIMEI), as well as maintain monthly billing control and make mandatory collections if he has an employee (MEI can only have one employee).
