[tutorial] How to set up Hotmail on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, step-by-step

Although several users received an email from Microsoft saying that ActiveSync in Hotmail had been postponed, the service was activated today for most. Learn how to set up your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad with the Windows Live email service.

First thing you have to do is go to Settings, on the part of Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Then add an account like Microsoft Exchange:

Enter your full email address (including with @hotmail username) and your password. Leave the field Domain empty. Right after, tap the button Following.

It will check with the server and then an empty field will appear, called Server. Write on it m.hotmail.com. This is what will allow instant synchronization with the messaging server.

Ready! Now just activate the services you want, such as Mail, Contacts and Calendars. It will synchronize the information with your Windows Live account.

With this, if you have previously configured the system with a POP Hotmail account (as shown here), you can now delete it, leaving only the new one.

The difference to the old configuration is that it will no longer be necessary to download all messages to the device. In addition, whenever you delete or send an email, change a contact or event in the calendar, it will automatically change on the server, making instant synchronization with all devices configured with the same account.
