Toshiba launches new 1.8-inch hard drives with up to 320GB capacity

Apple's partner in providing storage solutions for iPods, Toshiba today announced the availability of three new models of 1.8-inch hard drives within the seriesMKxx33GSG. With capacities of 160GB, 250GB and 320GB, the new hard drives are based on a dual tray configuration (dual-platter), have buffer 16MB and run at 5,400 revolutions per minute.

They also stand out for their transfer speed (830 megabits per second) and for exceeding the shock and vibration resistance of their 2.5-inch equivalents, that is, they are much more reliable for traveling on notebooks or on media players portable. In addition, the three were built in order to reduce noise levels and, for those who care about the environment, they also have less toxic products in the composition of their materials.

MacBooks Air and classic iPods use these hard drives (remembering that the first one also has SSD options), so adopting them would be very convenient for Apple. Currently, Ma's thinnest notebook brings 120GB of capacity through an HD like this, while the iPod classic reached 160GB of storage in September.
