Tip: WhatsApp backup on iCloud could be the biggest villain in your data franchise's consumption

Last month I ended up with my 7GB data plan. It wasn't the first time and it won't be the last, but in all of them I made intensive use of the Personal Access feature (Personal Hotspot) to share the internet from my iPhone with my MacBook Pro for work (which, of course, explains everything).

Not last month, no. My plan went away with the cycle closing in about three days and there was no plausible explanation for that. One of the possible causes could be the Wi-Fi Assist feature, but I disabled it as soon as I installed iOS 9.

I can't say for sure, but I believe I found the culprit in Cell Phone Settings System Services.

Note that, in my case, of 6.3GB of the so-called “System Services”, the “General” responsible for 3.9GB while “Personal Access” (something that consumes a lot of data, in my case) for “only” 1.7GB. Adding these two together, we have practically the total of 6.3GB and the other 700MB are divided among the various other resources such as "Push Notifications", "Messaging Services", etc.

As this “General” encompasses a lot of iCloud, it may be that the main culprit of all this is, among other things, my daily backup of WhatsApp.

Note that in WhatsApp “Conversation Backup” (just go to Conversation Settings to view the option) there is the following warning:

To avoid excessive charges, connect your phone to a Wi-Fi network or disable cell data for iCloud: iPhone settings iCloud iCloud Drive Use Cell Data No.

Because this option was enabled, which could really be aggravating my situation of excessive data consumption.

If you have this problem, I suggest doing the same thing and disabling the option to use cellular data for iCloud Drive. I still have no way to prove that he is the big culprit, but everything indicates that he is.
