The desire to change the current state of the Internet by the creator of the World Wide Web is no longer new. But now, and through his startup Inrupt, Tim Berners-Lee wants to expand his plans and launch pilot projects to develop "a quality technology platform". For this, it has a reinforced team.
The announcement was made in a post on the company's blog, where Tim Berners-Lee makes his objective clear: "For everyone to experience the true value of the web we are building we need to address the recurring problems related to privacy, trust and security ", writes in the publication. But how does the startup want to guarantee this premise?
To address these challenges, Inrupt hired five experts in the technology field, including Bruce Schneier, a security "guru" and author of several books. In addition, the startup is still working with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority in the UK, to test an application that aims to digitize children's health records up to 2.5 years of age.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Bruce Schneier said he believed in Tim Berners-Lee's vision of creating a new model of distributed data to challenge the "digital feudalism" of technological giants. The problem is that we cannot control our data, as it is integrated into computers that belong to many people, "he said.
Inrupt was founded in 2017 by Tim Berners-Lee and John Bruce, to develop Solid, an open source project that aims to restore balance, giving users total control of their data, whether personal or not. More recently, and after the creator of the WWW presented in 2018 his view on the need to correct what is wrong with the Internet, the "Contract for the Web" has become official. Altogether there are 76 clauses that intend to correct everything that is wrong on the Internet and the foundation has the support of technological giants.
