Despite being presented as an alternative to the physical edition of the event, the digital version of E3 will not, after all, take place. The rumors already pointed to the cancellation of the same, but the official confirmation only arrived this Wednesday, April 8th.
The organization of the event justifies the decision with the pandemic of COVID-19. In a statement, he states that no E3 2020 online event will be presented.
"Instead, we will work with exhibitors in the coming months to promote and display advertisements for individual companies, including at www.e3expo. We look forward to bringing industry and the community together in 2021 to present a reimagined E3 that will highlight new offers and thrill the our public ", informed the organization (via IGN).
It should be remembered that E3 was officially canceled on March 11, and the possibility of having a digital edition of the event was posted on the air. Microsoft immediately announced that, in return, it would send all of its ads to a proprietary event, also digital. PlayStation was already absent and the absence of the usual heavyweights may have led the organization to make this decision.
The event is expected to resume in 2021. The organization says it intends to present a version reimagined next year, more specifically between the 15th and 17th of this year.
