There is more evidence that 2020 iPhones will use 5nm chips

Last April, we reported that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Apple's partner in the production of “A” family chips for iPhones and iPads, was preparing to manufacture 5 nanometer chips that could equip the gadgets 2020.

Now, the supplier has released more information than it understands that these are the same plans, as released by DigiTimes. According to the Taiwanese, 5nm chip production is expected to start in the first half of 2020, in time for the manufacture of future iPhones, which will possibly be launched in the second half of that year.

One of TSMC's CEOs, CC Wei, said the company plans, meanwhile, to further invest in the production of 7nm chips, which equip the current line of iPhones and to gradually increase manufacturing of the new 5nm chip concurrently with development of 5G technology, as rumors of the first iPhones supported at new speeds will also be released in 2020.

For this year, Apple's possible “A13” chip is expected to continue to use the 7nm production process, but it should feature a new technology known as Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUV), which could make this year's gadget chips even thinner and more powerful.
