Previously, the benefit was only available in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, but now it has expanded to 31 other countries. They are: Brazil, Portugal, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Ecuador, Philippines, Finland, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Singapore, Switzerland and Turkey.
In Brazilian lands, in practice, university students will pay R $ 8.50 fur Spotify Premium, against the R $ 16.90 charged for a traditional individual subscription. As a comparison, Apple Music charges $ 2.49 on its educational discount plan, which, considering the current exchange rate, is still a little cheaper than its Swedish competitor (around R $ 7.80). To be eligible for the discount, users must prove their link to a higher education institution; the validation occurs through the company SheerID and, according to Spotify, the list of universities participating in the benefit is only valid for “accredited” institutions, however, it was not disclosed.
