If anyone thought Apple was joking when they started testing their system for autonomous cars, I can say that this person was badly mistaken.
As reported to Bloomberg, the amount of Apple vehicles running (almost) alone through California's streets and roads with the company's system is growing exponentially. Right after the initial authorization, received about a year ago, only three cars made up Apple's fleet of self-driving vehicles; Now, less than a year after this modest start, that amount has already doubled its registration documents. 27 cars on the street.
All vehicles are models Lexus RX450h, equipped with a camera and sensor paraphernalia developed by Apple itself, as we have detailed in this post apparently, this particular model is a favorite of companies that have tested autonomous steering systems for allowing the installation of modules with ease.
What is still unknown, of course, is what comes out of all this effort. Apple keeps its tests entirely under its own blinds, without official comment, so we still have to wait a few more months (or years) to pass and this fleet will multiply further so that we can know the practical outcome of all this.
Be a system for other manufacturers? Be the mythical "Apple Car"? The future dir!
