The list for 2010 of mobile phones with the highest level of radiation emits when it is in operation is already known. Leading the top, for the negative, are some of the most popular equipment of recent times. Motorola Droid, Blackberry Bold 9700, Nexus One HTC Magic and LG Chocolate Touch top the list prepared annually by the Environmental Working Group (EWG).
The American organization gathers the most popular models, according to the information made available in studies and in the specialized press, and places them under analysis by specialists. These assess the level of electromagnetic radiation (non-ionizing) produced by the equipment when it is in use and compare it with the levels defined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as acceptable.
In the analysis that has just been released and is available online, several devices sold in Portugal are among the best positions – in the more than one thousand devices analyzed (others are only available in the United States). Among them the Blackberry Storm or the Samsung Omnia II.
The information on the radiation levels emitted by the equipment is not mandatory, but for some specialists, namely those who carried out this study, this must nevertheless be a criterion taken into account when choosing a device.
The various studies carried out on the subject are not conclusive and point in diverging directions regarding the possible health impacts of radiation emitted to mobile phones.
EWG data remains for those who want to better evaluate the subject. On the left, the list of the 10 mobile phones that showed the lowest levels of radiation emission and on the right, the 15 worst classifieds. The values vary between 0.3 and 1.6, legal limit in the United States, and are presented in watts per kilogram or body weight, an index that means the level of radiation absorbed by the body when the phone is being used.
