“The Morning Show” nominated for Critics’ Choice Awards and Golden Globe [atualizado]

Any company that has a service streaming I would like to see your productions nominated for awards. With Apple, of course, it is no different. Well, we can say that she achieved this even very quickly with the Apple TV +!

Critics’ Choice Awards

Billy Crudup, on "The Morning Show"

Billy Crudup – “The Morning Show”

The actor Billy Crudup, in “The Morning Show”, was nominated for the “Best Supporting Actor” in a dramatic series of the Critics’ Choice Awards. He will compete with big names like Asante Blackk (“This Is Us”; NBC), Asia Kate Dillon (“Billions”; Showtime), Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”; HBO), Justin Hartley (“This Is Us”), Delroy Lindo (“The Good Fight”; CBS All Access) and Tim Blake Nelson (“Watchmen”; HBO).

Having such an indication is not easy. Netflix, for example, took a few good years to get its first ones. Now, in 2019, she got no less than 61 nominations for her productions (14 of them only for “The Irishman”, Martin Scorsese’s new film); Amazon Prime Video got 14, while Hulu got 7.

Golden Globe

But Apple didn’t stop there, no. As reported by Variety, “The Morning Show” was also indicated to the Golden Globe into two categories: “Best Actress Performance in a Television Series” in dramatic series (for the performances of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon) and “Best Television Series” for drama.

The others indicated are: Olivia Colman (“The Crown”), Jodie Comer (“Killing Eve”) and Nicole Kidman (“Big Little Lies”). The production of Apple TV + will compete with “Big Little Lies” (HBO), “The Crown” (Netflix), “Killing Eve” (BBC America) and “Succession” (HBO).

Not bad for the year of launching a service, right?

Problems in streaming

But Apple TV + doesn’t live only on good things. According to reports on Apple’s discussion forum and Reddit, users are complaining that the service’s content is not being played on Dolby Vision HDR on the ‌Apple TV‌ 4K connected to 4K TVs. The reader Luiz Felipe Tavares also fixed the problem in late November and alerted us via Twitter.

Apparently, the problem affects both new episodes released weekly and those already available on the platform.

Some users have commented that this may be a bug in the ‘Apple TV’ dynamic range matching feature. However, Apple is most likely to have removed support even while solving a possible problem.

It is worth mentioning that the removal does not affect all /Apple TV + series / movies, at least not for all users. There are reports that the documentary “The Elephant Mother”, as well as the series “Dickinson” and “Snoopy in Space”, are still played with Dolby Vision HDR support.

“Dickinson” Cast and “Lisey’s Story”

The most popular series on Apple TV + has gained news for its second season: according to Variety, Finn Jones (“Game of Thrones” and “Iron Fist”) and Pico Alexander (“Catch-22”, “A Most Violent Year” and “War Machine”) joined the production.

Jones will play Samuel Bowles, described as an energetic and magnetic newspaper editor; Alexander will play Henry “Ship” Shipley, who will embark with the Dickinsons after leaving Amherst College.

Here is a new video promoting the production:

In another series – “Lisey’s Story”, based on the eponymous novel by Stephen King – who has not yet made his debut, Sung Kang joined the cast in the role of Dan Beckman (a police officer assigned to guard Lisey’s home).

Finally, Apple published a new video to promote the children’s series “Helpsters”, which you can see below:

Update Dec 09, 2019 at 16:24

In a press release, Apple said that Apple TV + became the first streaming to receive recognition from the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) in its launch year.

These are also Aniston and Witherspoon’s first nominations for a dramatic TV series – Aniston is now only the fourth person in history to receive Golden Globe nominations in comedy and drama.
