Good times, those when Apple changed the design of its machines in big events, like Macworld or WWDC. This week, we had four important updates to the Cupertino product line, three of which drew a lot of attention: the new iMac, the new MacBook and the new mouse with touch technology, called Magic Mouse.
I start with the new MacBook, because, in my humble opinion, its renewal served to show that Apple can still create products with “your face”. From a few years ago, so much aluminum that the brand identity was practically lost. Even today, those who think of Apple end up remembering the philosophy that everything should be white, something that replaced the generation of colorful computers from the late 1990s.
The new laptop incorporates virtually all the latest technologies from the current MacBook Pro line. It is much more beautiful than its predecessor, and with surprising details:
Transformed into unibody, its hand support surface is made of a plastic material, with a special treatment that makes it much brighter and less rough, giving the impression that it will not be as dirty as in the past and also facilitating its cleaning. The monitor has the same quality as its 13.3-inch aluminum brother and the edge design is now more rounded, somewhat reminiscent of the iPhone.
However, the lower cover is not fully aligned with the rest of the housing, and it is possible to notice a division between this and the bottom with a rubberized finish. Better grip, but a feeling that something is not completely fitted just feeling.
The machine impresses with its beauty, in addition to having a trackpad multi-touch glass, which also gives it a new life in the market. Its MagSafe connection is similar to that of the MacBook Air; on the other hand, it lost the FireWire 400 port, which was not replaced by the 800Mbps port, nor does it have an SD memory card slot.
Still, it finally paid off to buy a MacBook. Look at the photos, both here and on the Apple website, and draw your conclusions.
iMac and Magic Mouse
In relation to the new iMac, 27 inches look less than the 24 of the previous model. The computer is thinner and is approximately 52 cm high by 65 cm wide, that is, the same height as the largest previous iMac, but 8 cm wider. On the side, the machine gained an entry for SD cards, just below the SuperDrive. The display resolution is impressive, but not more impressive than Apple's new mouse, now called the Magic Mouse.
The name “Mighty” ceases to exist and, whoever wants a wired version, has to be content with the Apple Mouse, the same as always. What really changes wireless, with a new design and touch-sensitive surface, allowing you to scroll pages with the swipe of a finger, or browse Safari, iPhoto and any other Apple program that contains two-finger forward and back arrows.
Although it reminds me of a cockroach or any other wormy animal, readers, but the comparison is inevitable and not my idea, the Magic Mouse offers a much more comfortable support for the hand, without straining the wrist thanks to its small height. The hand is not as inclined as in other mouse models, preventing fatigue and reducing the feeling that a repetitive strain injury is coming. It also slides on the table with less resistance, slightly better than the Mighty Mouse.
With Bluetooth connection, for now it only works completely with the new iMacs on other machines, just normal clicks are accessible; nothing of multi-touch. A software update is on the way, so that the tactile surface works with other existing models. I haven't tested it with the new MacBook, but the configuration on the Apple desktop is pretty easy, and in System Preferences (System Preferences) It is possible to see short videos showing their new functions, something similar to what we have regarding glass trackpads.
For those who used Expos on the mouse, a bad news: the keys for their functions no longer exist on the new device. However, who knows, soon we will also have a response to three fingers? Space in the configurations exists.
Since the changes in the Mac mini are internal, I have nothing to say about it yet. So, I hope you enjoyed seeing more details about the new white MacBook and the new iMac, bringing the Magic Mouse. Apple back to being Apple!
