Google Docs is a text editor that works in the browser and brings a lot of little known features from users. Considered one of the best alternatives to traditional programs like Word, the service has advanced functions for creating and editing documents on your computer, including some that take advantage of other famous Google products, such as search, translator, and voice typing. Here are ten software tricks that are unknown to most people, but which can be useful in everyday life with the tool.

1. Create a shortcut document
I don't need to open the main Google Docs page to create a document quickly. Instead, you can use a browser shortcut: in the address bar, type doc.new and press Enter to open a new Docs file on the fly. The ideal command for when you need to take a quick note and start writing as soon as possible. Material automatically saved to your Google account and can be retrieved later in the docs list.

2. Arrange text with titles
Long text can be organized into headings and intertitles to have an automatic index created on the side. Format the document using the title tool: use title 1 for primary, titles 2 for secondary, title 3 for third, and so on. When you're done, check that on the left side Docs will now display the content organized in this layout and let you navigate the document with one click.

3. Use keyboard shortcuts
Google Docs has a number of keyboard shortcuts that help you execute commands quickly without having to navigate menus. To get started, type Ctrl + / (or Command + / on Mac) to open a window with a list of all platform-compatible shortcuts. From there, it is possible to start using the most useful at the moment and gradually incorporate them into everyday life. Google speech recognition is available as a dictation function within Google Docs. The handy feature for typing without typing, ideal for resting your hands or producing nimble text when you don't have to worry so much about formatting. The function can be accessed from the Tools menu> Voice Typing "or by the command Ctrl + Shift + S on the keyboard.

5. Type sentences with a command
Docs' automatic override function can help you type snippets that often repeat themselves in different text or documents. Access preferences from the Tools menu and check Auto Override. Then type the command in the left column and on the right side the content that should be inserted automatically. Then simply type the command and give a space to show the complete content automatically.

6. Enter Google content
Google allows you to search the web without leaving a Google Docs document. Access the Explore feature from the Tools menu to open the browser in a right-hand panel. Search for links and images and click and drag the desired items into the text. In the Drive tab, you can access files saved in your personal cloud that can be useful for building the document.

7. Move block paragraphs
Google Docs has a very useful command to make it easier to edit blocky text. When moving entire paragraphs in the document, instead of using the classic copy and paste, do the following: mark the desired paragraph, hold down the Shift + Alt keys and use the arrow keys to move the entire position snippet.

Google Translate is another company product that is integrated with Docs. The feature is useful for creating an entire document in another language without having to appeal to copy and paste it. Access the Tools menu, press Translate Document and select a translation language the system automatically identifies the original language of the text. The function is compatible with all languages supported by Translator.

Google records a history of all edits made and saved to an online document and allows you to revert to a previous version. The feature is very useful in collaboratively edited texts that can get messy as many people contribute. To access the record, open the File> Version History> View Version History menu and browse through older document variants. The editor records the name and time when the edit was performed. Select one of the versions and use the button in the upper right corner to restore.

10. Edit and save as Word
Word files are very popular, but that doesn't stop you from using Docs as your main text editor. If a Microsoft file is in Drive, just right-click it and select Open With> Google Docs to edit in Docs without changing the .docx format. In addition, any file originally created on Google's online platform can be downloaded in Word format to your computer: go to File> Download> Microsoft Word.
