Google Lens recently arrived to scan the world with the cell phone camera and, from Google’s database, offer a number of features. By identifying texts and objects by means of artificial intelligence, the tool makes several tasks and searches simpler, such as reading documents, identifying a work of art or searching for a tourist spot.

For now, Google Lens is available as a part application only on Android smartphones, where it is also found in the Google Assistant. J on iPhones (iOS), Lens can be used through Google Photos.

Using Google Lens on your phone

1. Copy texts from the real world

Manipulating non-digital text around you is much easier with Lens. Just point the camera and the application detects information written on documents, posters, menus, labels, covers and even handwritten notes and transforms it into editable text. You can select a section to copy, search or translate.

Google Lens not only reads texts, it can also identify what it is about in some cases. When a business card with information such as name, phone, email and address identified, the tool offers the option of adding the contact to the smartphone's calendar. Each field in the Contacts app automatically filled with the new data.

Upon recognizing the cover of a book, the software displays details and reviews about the item and, of course, allows an immediate search on Google. The same goes for movies, games and CDs. It tends to be much faster than typing each title in the search.

4. Identify works of art

Lens knows how to identify famous paintings and sculptures, providing name, author and other information. The technology is worth both an original work of art in the museum and a reproduction on a T-shirt.

5. Read bar codes and QR codes

There are apps for that purpose, but Google Lens is there to help the user capture and process all kinds of visual information around them. Therefore, bar codes and QR codes were not left out. Depending on the code, the resource can show details about a product, a link or just the corresponding number.

Your trips or even a walk in your own city can get more interesting. By pointing the camera at a building, fountain or other famous building, the app is able to recognize it and provide information about it.

One of the functions of Lens most publicized by Google is the ability to detect products and indicate similar ones that are sold on the internet. From clothes, shoes and bags to furniture and appliances, if you saw an object at a friend's house or in a store, liked it and want to know more or buy a similar one, the app can help.

8. Identify plants and flowers

If you want to find out what kind of tree is near your home or what plant is in the doctor's waiting room, here's an option. While most people do not have very extensive botanical knowledge, Google Lens is able to recognize and name different species of plants and flowers. When faced with the face of a musician, actor, politician, historical figure or any famous person, the resource can recognize it, indicate its name and more information about it.

Google Lens can differentiate between breeds of dogs and cats. Point the phone at the animal and the application will list the names of the breeds that most resemble. In the case of cross breed animals, however, the tool still does not know how to interpret.
