Tax authorities alert to new fraud by sending emails to taxpayers

Some taxpayers have received fraudulent e-mail messages. The alert comes from the Treasury, through the Portal das Finanas and sends to addresses such as info.wKK@portaldasfinancas.gov.pt or similar, with emails asking the Portuguese to open a link that is provided.

The tax authorities guarantee that "these messages are false and should be ignored". "Its objective is to convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on the suggested links", can be read in the Portal das Finanas alert.

Therefore, the Portuguese should not, under any circumstances, open the links present in the message body. To make life easier for the Portuguese, the tax authorities showed the example of the message body.

Although Portal das Finanas does not make any reference to COVID-19, the truth is that in the midst of a pandemic, cybercriminals have taken advantage of the new Coronavirus to attack. In this context, in just one week, Europol eliminated 2,500 links and warned that fraud is growing, and efforts are being made to stop cybercriminals who take advantage of fears surrounding the pandemic to threaten the security and privacy of citizens.
