In a rare event these days, probably made possible by the explosive soap opera with the Galaxy Note7 (part of the game, after all), the Apple hit the Samsung in smartphone sales in the fourth quarter of 2016.
As we reported yesterday, Apple delivered 78.3 million iPhones in October, November and December 2016. In the same period, according to a survey by Strategy Analytics, Samsung sold 77.5 million devices. This gave Ma a 17.8% share in the quarter, against 17.7% for the South Korean manufacturer.
Check the complete table:
Behind the two giants came Huawei (44.9 million, 10.2%), OPPO (29.5 million, 6.7%) and Vivo (25.6 million, 5.8%). There were 438.7 million smartphones sold in the quarter, in all.
Considering the entire year of 2016, Samsung still retained the first place with 309.4 million smartphones sold (20.8% of market share), against 215.4 million from Apple (14.5%), 138.8 from Huawei (9.3%), 84.6 million from OPPO (5.7%) and 71.9 million from Vivo (4, 8%). The annual total was 1.5 billion smartphones, an increase of 3.3%.
Good fight.
